Have ideas? Need $$$?

Does your guild do outreach in your community? Are you planning a workshop or a retreat for several guilds or one that will be open to the public? Commemorating a guild anniversary? Digitizing the guild’s sample exchange notebooks? Developing web-based tutorials? Organizing a regional fiber event? Do you know of another non-profit that wants to learn more about fiber arts? MAFA’s mission is fiber education — but that doesn’t mean it can only happen in a classroom setting. If you need some extra funding for ideas like these, your guild or another non-profit may qualify for a MAFA grant.

Complete information and the application are now available on the MAFA website. Applications are due January 31, 2018 for projects taking place from March, 2018 through April 1, 2019. Our Grants Chair, Mary Strouse, would be happy to answer any questions. Contact her at

Guild Volunteers Needed

The guilds that helped out at MAFA 2017 had so much fun, we want to share the wealth. Talk to your guild about taking on a job at the next conference — and join us in planning the next conference. Organize the goody bags, the spinning games or some weaving fun, the fashion show or the sample exchange — or come up with another idea. See additional details on our website at Get Involved!

Workshop Ideas?

Requests for instructor proposals will be going out soon. Contact Conference Coordinator Theresa Hill at if you want to suggest a new instructor or workshop.

Membership — Info Needed from Reps

Help us support you. If your guild Rep or officers have changed, please send new contact information (name and email) to Margaret at

Please also include contact information for your guild’s program chair. We are compiling an email list of guild program officers to enable them to better coordinate programs and workshops among guilds.
Be sure to check your guild’s listing on the MAFA website to confirm it is still accurate, and let us know if it needs corrections. Find the guild listings on our website.
Watch for our survey — coming soon….

The 2017 MAFA Conference survey provided many ideas to improve our Conference and MAFA. Among them was a “request” for MAFA to help guilds to connect in real ways. We’d like to do that, but we need more details to proceed.
* What kind of support and/or resources would your guild like from MAFA.
* What questions do guild members have?
* What is the best way for MAFA to communicate with your guild?
* How would you like to communicate with other member guilds?
* What other issues can you cite?

We’d like to hear them all. With your input, we will send out a survey on how best to support you and your guild, communication preferences, desirable resources, and other issues.
