Central Virginia Fiberarts Guild

We may not be MAFA’s newest guild, but we are certainly the youngest! Founded in January 2018 through a merging of Charlottesville Fiber Arts Guild, Albemarle Handweavers, and Whirling Whorls Handspinners, our new guild is the Central Virginia Fiberarts Guild. Our mission is to bring together fiber artists – from professionals to novices, and from all the many disciplines of fiber arts. So many of us do more than one fiber art, we thought the guild should too!

Members mostly come from the Charlottesville area, but we also have members from “over the Mountain” to the West in the Shenandoah Valley, South towards Lynchburg, East to Richmond, and North to Orange. Our most popular activity is our monthly craft-in where members and guests are welcome to bring their wheel, loom, knitting, or any other portable fiber art. In our first year, we’ve had a great lineup of guild programs – ranging from informal demos of kumihimo braiding and linen processing, to mini-workshops on natural dyeing, fiber prep for spinning, and paper quilling, as well as a series of workshops with a local artist focusing on eco-printing and indigo dyeing. The guild is very active in outreach activities – demoing fiber arts at various festivals and events in Central Virginia.
